In Focus | Martyn’s Law Introduced to Parliament
The
Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, also known as
Martyn’s Law, was introduced to parliament on 12 September 2024, after featuring in the King’s Speech in July 2024.
The Bill aims to better protect the public from terrorism, requiring many public venues to improve preparedness against attacks and bring in measures to help keep people safe.

Fire Safety in Residential Buildings | Director’s Briefing
Since the review of building regulations following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017, new legislation has been introduced,
with more to come, specifically aimed at improving the safety of high-rise residential buildings, and other buildings more generally, from the design stage and throughout their lifecycle.

The Golden Thread | Director’s Briefing
The ‘Golden Thread’ is defined as “both the information that allows you to understand a building and the steps needed to keep both the building and people safe, now and in the future”.
The requirement for the Golden Thread is part of the UK government’s response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy in which 72 people lost their lives in 2017 and forms part of the requirements set out by the Building Safety Act 2022.

Zero to Landfill | Employee Factsheet
Zero to landfill is a concept where no waste streams go to landfill. Instead, materials are diverted to other uses, for example: cardboard is recycled at paper mills, glass is re-melted, plastic is made into new packaging, and food waste is composted. Waste which cannot be reused or recycled is recovered via methods such as energy from waste, incineration, plasmosis and gasification.

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) | Employee Factsheet
The term DSE covers not just PCs, but also laptops, tablets and smartphones. In Focus: Higher-risk buildings provisions come into force
On 16 January 2024, provisions in Part 4 of the Building Safety Act 2022, which cover requirements for higher-risk buildings, were brought into force by the Building Safety Act 2022 (Commencement No. 6) Regulations SI 2024/40.
