Martyn’s Law | Director’s Briefing
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill was introduced to Parliament on 12 September 2024. At time of writing, it is currently undergoing Parliamentary scrutiny.
Also known as ‘Martyn’s Law’ in tribute to Martyn Hett who was killed along with 21 others in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, the new law aims to ensure venues across the UK consider the security of the public and take steps to protect them from harm.

(more…) In Focus | Employment Rights Bill to bring key changes
On Thursday the 10th of October, Ministers unveiled the Employment Rights Bill, introduced within 100 days of the new Government coming to office, to help deliver economic security and growth to businesses, workers and communities across the UK.
The Bill aims to upgrade workers’ rights across the UK, tackle poor working conditions, and benefit businesses and workers alike.

EU Pay Transparency Directive | Director’s Briefing
In April 2023, the European Council adopted new rules on pay transparency. The directive aims to address pay discrimination and help close the gender pay gap in the EU.
To do this, employers will be required to meet certain levels of transparency and commitment to how pay is set and advertised.
EU companies will also need to share information on pay and take action if their gender pay gap exceeds 5%.
The directive also includes provisions on compensation for victims of pay discrimination and penalties, including fines, for employers who break the rules.

Fire Safety in Residential Buildings | Director’s Briefing
Since the review of building regulations following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017, new legislation has been introduced,

The Golden Thread | Director’s Briefing
The ‘Golden Thread’ is defined as “both the information that allows you to understand a building and the steps needed to keep both the building and people safe, now and in the future”.
The requirement for the Golden Thread is part of the UK government’s response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy in which 72 people lost their lives in 2017 and forms part of the requirements set out by the Building Safety Act 2022.
