The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill was introduced to Parliament on 12 September 2024.
At time of writing, it is currently undergoing Parliamentary scrutiny.
Also known as ‘Martyn’s Law’ in tribute to Martyn Hett who was killed along with 21 others in the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, the new law aims to ensure venues across the UK consider the security of the public and take steps to protect them from harm.
The Bill seeks to ‘improve protective security and organisational preparedness across the UK’. It requires those responsible for premises and
events to take steps to mitigate the impact of a terrorist attack and reduce harm in the event of such an attack occurring.
