Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) Recommendations – Director’s Briefing

Following two years of extensive development the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) published its final recommendations in September 2023.

The TNFD recommendations seek to:

•  Improve the availability, accuracy and reliability of data relating to nature-related issues by providing a framework.

•  Better inform the decision-making process of companies and investors in relation to nature-related issues.

•  Enable corporate reporting on nature to align with global policy – the TNFD recommendations align with target 15 of the Global Biodiversity Framework for corporate reporting.

Recognise the importance of nature on a global scale and influence financial markets towards making decisions that result in positive outcomes for nature.

This introduction to the TNFD’s recommendations seeks to answer some key questions, including:

•   Are the recommendations mandatory?

•   Who do they apply to?

•   What are the general requirements?

•   What metrics are used?

•   What does this have to do with ESG?
