Associated Foreign Press | A German court has sentenced four ex-Volkswagen managers over the “dieselgate” scandal.

Heinz-Jakob Neusser received a suspended term of 1 year 3 months; the former head of drive electronics got 2 years 7 months; the former head of diesel motor development received 4 years 6 months; the fourth defendant was given 1 year 10 months suspended.

All may appeal. Former VW CEO Martin Winterkorn’s trial remains suspended due to ill health.

The highest-ranking convict to date is ex-Audi CEO Rupert Stadler (suspended sentence in 2023). In February 2025 French prosecutors called for further charges over consumer repair costs.
